back in the day
The art of shopping has drastically evolved since I was little.
If we needed something, whether it was food or clothing, or anything for that matter, we got in the car and drove to the store that offered that particular item. Very rarely we would order via a catalog – I actually remember us ordering from the Banana Republic catalog BEFORE Banana Republic was a store (what?!?!?! Yes, I am totally dating myself).
The internet has introduced us to a whole new world when it comes to shopping. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t think to check Amazon when there was a request for something from my family.
“I need dry erase markers for my math class.”
“My baseball pants don’t fit anymore.”
“Mama needs a new pair of shoes.” (Ahem…I have needs too)
There was a time that I would receive packages (plural) on a daily basis. Jokes would be made that I kept UPS and FedEx in business; or that we should’ve considered building a receiving dock when we built our home. BUT did the jokers once consider that, due to the internet, I was diligently comparing pricing and finding the best deal that was going to be delivered to our door? Bitterness aside…
Enter Alfie – My New Shopping Companion
Recently I was asked to try out Kenmore’s Alfie, a new way to shop. I received my Alfie in the mail, and quickly set it up on my desk. I downloaded the app and connected the device to our wifi. Could this little circular thing help me shop smarter? I was about to find out.
My older guy had been asking me for a penny board, a smaller-than-conventional skateboard, to ride to the bus stop every morning. I didn’t know much about these penny boards but it was perfect timing to test out my little Alfie.
I clicked the “talk” button at the top of the device and said, “I’m looking for a penny board”. My response was literally:
Happy to help you shop for a penny board skateboard. To get started, how much are you looking to spend? Do you have a preference on design?”
I pressed the talk button again and responded with, “$50”.
I then received (very) shortly afterward this message on my phone:
I responded with, “The retro cruiser”. N requested an orange penny board and this one was perfect!
Alfie asked me (literally) if I wanted to set up the order and was done!
I received a confirmation of my order, along with the directions of “If this works for you, reply with “ALFIE FETCH”. (How cute and appropo?!)
I seriously can’t wait to try Alfie out for my rigorous holiday shopping! It was such an easy, and fun, shopping experience. I received an email confirmation that the penny board should arrive around November 19th, so I’ll keep you posted! My big guy can’t wait to get his new skateboard!!
Interested in trying out Alfie this holiday season? To purchase your very own Alfie, visit their website. Alfie is $29.99 but for a limited time, once you activate it, you will get a $50 back in “Shop Your Way” credits.
Does Alfie sound like it may be your shopping companion for the holidays?
